It's cool in the morning with everything dripping from dew but there are no clouds. And none come except for some aircraft trails. There isn't much wind to bring clouds in anyway. Of course the result is a rather hot day in the office. And now after nightfall the temperature is tumbling down. At about 5°C per hour.
Current temp is 25.6°C in and 16.2°C out.

No support. OK, I do get one call, which is easily dealt with. So I get on nicely with the Sapification. Although the changes now aren't nice and easy. I am checking parameters as they are passed from one program to another. Hitting real messy situations.

Dinner is red cabbage. With some sausages, but I end up eating the sausages long before the cabbage is ready cause it has to cook rather long and slow.

I am also plagued by a headache and a sore throat all day. As if I got a cold or flu trying to break in -or break out, I am not sure what is appropriate here. Anyway, we can't have that, I never get sick.

Wonderful morning. All nice and clear, pale blue, with the sun wallowing in the low red-brown mist. Up in the air there are six airplanes with a silver tail, four with a flaming red tail and one with a black tail. The odd one out.
That type of man-made clouds is all we get today.
Current temp is 22.1°C in (airco) and 21.0°C out (no airco).

There again is almost no support. So I finish up the new labels and I can finally test them cause the label printer got repaired. The extended bar code doesn't fit on the label anymore, I suspected that but without printer that's impossible to check. There are two possible ways out so ... I build in both. Hey we're talking computers so why would you ever take an easy simple solution if there are different ways to screw up. Thing is I don't screw up. ^_^

After the label solution I try to find out for R why he cannot seem to send mail from the production system so some outside addresses. But I don't solve that one. Certainly not with the electricity flowing on the commercial devision -same room, just a line of cabinets between us- with an auction going on. Well, you got the big boss and the owner shouting at each other (not angry, just their normal way of communicating) creating a stock-floor atmosphere.

Dinner is red cabbage with bacon. I love cabbage because it is easy. Sure it take time to cut a cabbage finely enough and it has to cook fairly long. Still it is simple and easy work. Best of all it tastes better the second day and that day you don't have to work on it. I used to make it late in the evening, after dinner, in preparation for the next day. For red cabbage I use Sherry vinegar, you need to add vinegar unless you really want to eat blue cabbage. Along with the vinegar most people add sugar, I don't I add some cut up apples for sweetening. The first day those pieces of apple are still separate, the second day they are all blended in.

As a sidenote. Lately my home connection is dropping out more often than not. I think it really is about time to some wider tyres for 'the information highway'

You got to execute the orders, not the one who gives them.

Another clear morning without clouds. Also less mist and more heat. Without the marked drop in temperature so we are in for a hot night. I don't like those.
Current temp is 23.0°C in and 20.9°C out.

The tension in the office remains just as high as yesterday but with less shouting. I try to get the Sapification back under control. The problem is that R started working on a bunch of file I had noted down for investigation while I was still busy at the main body of files. No I don't know what has been finished and what isn't.

Dinner is swordfish steak with rice and some vegetables. I really was not in the mood to make anything after a long and hot day in the office. But then I noticed the swordfish in the fridge, and there was some chicory and paprika. All begging to be released from the cold. So I released them. from the fridge into the pan.

Logic. Well, if the 'mericans can't do it we'll do it ourselves. ( http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/national/news/20050830p2a00m0na022000c.html ) We still need the shuttle but probably not for long.

The morning is nice again, with the thinnest of moons rising just ahead of the sun. It's not all clear though there are some thin high cloud bands overhead, briefly shimmering a pale red before turning a diffuse white. Later the white stiff covers both horizons and everything in between before starting to turn gray. It even rains a bit late in the afternoon
Current temp is 22.9°C in and 17.7°C out.

Work is still not flowing as it should. I am not really interrupted by support calls, well, not often anyway, but there is still tension all around bit the auctioning system.

Running all right. But it was probably a bad idea. The first raindrops went up in a puff of steam the moment they splattered out on the ground in the afternoon. Immediately after the rain the wind, slow but steady all day, died down. And with that weather I go running in a forest. Add to that the cold and throat-ache that's been plaguing me all week and it becomes rather expected that I die six times while running. I also melt three times and suffocate twice over.
The first person who tells me that sport is good is gone regret saying it for the rest of his very short life. :)

Dinner is rice with ham and onion and leeks and red-pepper.

Just forget it. All those advances in batteries and alcohol or water fueled generators are crap. all you need is caking your pet hamster along when you want to have a long chat. ( http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1513938.html?menu= )

All nice untill you get a BSOD with the gas, brakes and steering wheel locked up. ( http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1520775.html?menu=news.scienceanddiscovery )

Of course, now why didn't I see that before. ( http://coldfury.com/reason/?p=930 ) Plundering citizens down south are not the problem. Terrorists on reconnaissance in NY and LA are not a problem.

Porn is.

Curiously the sky is all clear again without mist or anything, just tons of dew all over the place. And that doesn't survive long when th sun get up. The result though is a hot humid day, more humid than hot really.
Current temp is 24.2°C in and 16.8°C out.

Work is fun. It's just that I don't know who had the fun.
One of the clients is sending orders with shipping numbers that were used by another client about three years ago. Technically we have to keep data for the last two years directly available in the system. Practically -because the archiving programs don't work and we don't get time budgeted to fix them- we keep data for much longer. Of course shipping numbers should be unique so when they are being reused you hit strange problems. That have to be solved instantly. Big burly truck drivers don't have much patience. o_o'

No dinner. Well, I only got back home at 21:00 with no hunger or appetite at all. So I chopped a chunk of cheese and ate that with a half slice of bread while reading the newspaper.

Much the same weather today. starting cool and dew soaked and ending a bit hazy. Rather warm too but less stifling than yesterday. Quit nice actually.
Current temp is 23.9°C in and 14.2°C out.

Shopping for wine and fruit and groceries.

The shopping is so tiring that I rest for most of the day. Yep, just being a lazy ass.

Dinner is steak. I intended to eat chicken but I don't each chicken is it smells like fish. The smell is probably caused by accidentally turning the fridge to level five, which results in frozen stuff, and turning it back on the normal level 2, cold but unfrozen. Typically food that's been frozen and thawed again goes bad in no time.

So in stead of chicken I slice up a nice thick steak and marinade that in my spiced whisky-wine mixture before stir-frying. Served with rice and sweet sour sauce it is not bad at all. Better than chicken anyway.

Another nice day with lots of sun. Also a mild breeze chasing away the humidity so it becomes really very nice and enjoyable. Just what summer should have been.
Current temp is 22.3°C in and 15.2°C out.

Good weather. Ideal to be lazy outside.

With an extra long visit to my uncle. They have an historic parade in town which he wants to visit with us. So we go.

Dinner is cod. Perfectly spiced ~kumin, coriander and ginger~, not too much not too little, and baked. Served with black rice and a dab of soy sauce. Thanks to buying a modest piece of fish in stead of my usual double-portion, I stop myself from over eating.

Bright and clear. Just a couple of red and silver aircraft tails slashing the air. Not only the morning is beautiful, the whole day is perfect as can be. A bit warm inside but just enough wind out there to make it ideal for taking a walk.
Current temp is 25.9°C in and 18.9°C out.

...

Support. Same problem as last Friday. I am hardly long enough off the phone to log the porblems.

...

Dinner is rice with special prawns. Well, the prawns are normal but the seasoning isn't. The basic ingredients are cumin mustard seeds, with ginger and garlic added all crushed and mixed in a mortar. I used dried ginger and garlic basically cause that's much easier cause the result is a coarse powder. Using fresh ginger and garlic ~next time~ results in a paste which is less easy to distribute over the prawns. After seasoning and stir-frying those prawns smell and taste gorgeous.

Dropping the disk for flash is a logical move (I expected it for a long time already). ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/05/ipod_mini_forecast/ ) What is less logical though is moving to a colour screen. It's gone kill the battery gain

Nor yet ready for your laptop battery but at least people start looking seriously for fusion reactors. ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/05/civilian_laser_fusion/ )

It's been hot all night, hovering around 20°C, with a short dip in the early morning. And it doesn't dip that low either before it shoots up to uncomfortable levels. Ok, 27~28 isn't really that hot but with the humidity included it is not nice at all.
Current temp is 21.0°C in and 17.9°C out.

Support is hot as well. The phone starts ringing at 07:15 and hardly stops till noon.
I gave the users in the hall a good method to work around the archiving problem yesterday and apart from a few sideline problems that worked. But it was not the most efficient way to work. We ran the archiving and W did some extra archiving SQL work. But still not enough apparently. The main ~but not only~ problem is that the regular archiving doesn't run correct and leaves lots of orphaned loading slips behind

So I do a quick rewrite of a part of the archiving and run that. Leaving just one part that cannot be cleared up.

Dinner is pizza. Very good dough, evenly rolled out and perfectly baked. Combined with a delicately spiced, tuna based topping with olives and mozarella slices. I did however have a relapse into my old habit by layering the toping to thick. That is not a big problem if everything is as good as it is now ~it is a disaster with most commercial bottoms~ but still, it becomes to heavy. So now I have half a pizza left for tomorrow.

During the constitutional convention in 1787 when it was proposed that the National Army be limited to 3,000 men, George Washington whispered from his presiding chair,

"Then we should have another article providing that no foreign nation with an army exceeding 3,000 men be allowed to invade."
