Most of the day is dry but there is a fair bit of drizzle going on as well. And there are occasional heavy down pours. Curious about those is that they are short, up to two minutes at the longest, and very dense. Really like curtains passing by.
Current temp is 17.5°C in and 11.5°C out.

Shopping. Fruit and wine and coffee and groceries and ... . The hole lot.

I also finally get some papers to the insurance company. Problem is they are closed when I am home -office hours- and while they are in walking distance and open on Saturday morning that is walking distance in the wrong direction. So I always forget or just don't bother. Especially not for something unimportant like a refund ... which they will do by deducting on the next invoice, in April.

Dinner is toast with fresh sardines, frsh tomato and ... old cheese. Grilled in the oven.

More bursts of rain in the morning. By noon that stops and the weather turns. All sunny and blue. With clouds hugging the horizon but not coming closer before nightfall.
Current temp is 17.4°C in and 10.1°C out.

Perfect weather for some in-house cleaning in the morning and some garden stuff in the afternoon. I get some rows of winter-onions planted. And with the expected rain over the next couple of days they may even get roots out before the neighbours cats rip them out.

Back in the evening I try to link up my notebook to the TV just testing. The notebook has an SVideo out and with a scart-SVideo converter on the TV I should be able to watch DVDs on the TV. More a test than anything because I don't watch films that often. I kind of get it working but it's not satisfying. The first problem is that when I switch screens on the notebook I loose the SVideo signal (it switches to the external VGA port) and switching again doesn't give me my SVideo back (I have to go and reconfigure the display properties in XP). So I can watch TV but the computer screen remains on (till it falls asleep). A second problem which I only notice much later is that I only get a black and white (and grey) picture on the TV. Probably solvable via settings ~which auto-reset themselves no doubt~ but at that stage I give up. I can but a cheap DVD player for the TV if I want to view DVDs. And that probably works right as well (because it doesn't use Windows(TM)).

I do make a mistake though by using The Lord of the Ring for testing so now I watch the whole first book again. (till half past one, and I get up at half past five ... aauw)

Dinner is chicken with fennel stew. One of the fennel in the garden was getting very big indeed, almost up to shop-size but it still packed a much more concentrated taste.

The rain season continues. With drizzle in the morning and real heavy and steady rain all trough the afternoon. Wet and warm for the time of year.
Current temp is 17.5°C in and 11.8°C out.

Work is slack, waiting for the big move really. Slack apart from a couple of difficult support calls. Normally for R but he's got a day off.

Running after work is fun. But at the end I look as if I've been mud wrestling. Well, almost.

Back home tired but I only have to heat up the chicken stew for a good dinner. As with most stews it's better after a days rest.

I suppose it rained a couple of showers tonight, but the early morning is dry. Early morning doesn't last though so we get a couple of hours with steady and strong rain before noon. Most ~but not all~ of the afternoon is dry again.
Current temp is 17.4°C in and 11.3°C out.

Comparing sources is boring and tiring. Over 90% of the programs are done right so most of the time I am staring at well done changes. By evening my eyes are square and scrolling.
As this is going to continue for a couple of days you can expect more short posts.

Dinner a a quick rice and bacon thing with chopped carrots cooked along with the rice. Very simple, very fast. And not half bad.

Judging by the puddles on the road there has been more nightly rain, but most of the morning is dry end even sunny. Not bright though. All of the afternoon is dry as well.
Current temp is 18.5°C in and 12.0°C out. 12.0°C out, at the end of October ... call it a heat wave.

If the weather is hot for the time of year then work is hot as well.
We shifted the big jump forward with Sapification to the weekend of the 11th November because the 11th is a general holiday (armistice) giving us three days to finish the job. Sounds reasonable and feasible. But now Hall-W says they keep on working on the 11th claiming it's a peak day for them. The planned throughput time of our fix is 40 hours. Comfortable in three days, but try to fit it in two ... .
So we get a crisis meeting. We cannot shift further into the future (not without a new 3 day closure in sight anyway) and moving back is not an option because things aren't ready (and neither of the weekends are long). So we will have to push all our stuff trough in two days. I think I have a sleepless weekend planned now.

Work itself -source comparison- is booooring. But the support call coming at 17:50 was more interesting than it needed to be.

Dinner is rice with beans and carrots and garlic. Again rice. Yep, I can eat it every day and not get bored by it. And no, I don't come from China or some place there.

It's summer again. Not perfect and cloudless but mostly sunny anyway
Current temp is 18.3°C in and 11.6°C out.

Jay. I got a day off. And it's perfect weather.

Bhoo. Got a day off for my car-checkup. At just over 600€. (new tires and brakes add up)

Back from the garage I move over to Peter and his wife to drive them over to Diest for a cemetery visit. Unplanned but good to get that out of the way. It clears up the schedule for the weekend and the 1st nicely.

Computers are a mystery.
I plan to get ADSL (He's been planning that for the last 200 years.   ed.) and I want to change my main system (also on the charts for 200years.   ed). So I have everything installed on the new box and it's fitted well in the network, all I need to do is move the box. Moving and 'on the network' means rerouting cables So I do that. And the result is that the box suddenly refuses to boot. After fifteen and a half boot later it works again as if nothing happened.
But tell me. I didn't move the box, that's for later, all I actually did was swap the network cable for a longer one. And I had the power off while doing that (OK, I admit I swapped both the network and the power cable).

Dinner is rice with fennel and a nice -to big- piece of baked red-bass. Not bad but not remarkable either.

It really is summer again. Just what the real summer should have been, with 22°C, blue skies and a bright sun. All that can happen even late in autumn, I know, but the clincher is that the evening is clear and stary and warm.
Current temp is 21.1°C in and 15.2°C out.

Back at work. There is a national strike against the government plans about employment and social security and pensions. From our company only a very small group of people go to Brussels, so it's work as usual. With support now and then. And a bunch of eye-killing, brain-numbing code comparing.

Dinner is lentil soup. But with the emphasis on lentils and not on the soup, it can be eaten with a fork. Well, that's what you get when you take a full pack of lentils and boil them in less than half the amount of water for just over half the time needed. And No, that's not a mistake. I serve them like peas with diced bacon. I like lentils but they are typically sold dried for soup.

There is more of the summer coming in. Nice and warm with a few white clouds. there is a bit of wind but it's cooling rather than chilling. No autumn bite to it at all.
Current temp is 20.1°C in and 14.2°C out.

Shopping. Just the usual wine and fruit. I buy too much coffee, but only realise it when I am storing away the stuff.

Later I do a ~very~ little bit of gardening. Most of the pruning is in house, getting rid of papers and stuff.

Dinner is spaghetti with a fish-sauce. Well, typical spaghetti sauce of tomatoes and onion with some paprika but when almost cooked I add thin strips of smoked salmon. Turns out rather good.

There is no end to the summer here. Although there are some more clouds they are still rare and it is warm and sunny. With almost no wind.
Current temp is 22.8°C in and 14.0°C out.

I think I have a serious problem. I can dial in to the ISP server but my log-in is rejected. As if my account has been disabled. It's not the first time that my log-in attempts are missing, usually though I just try again an hour later and it's accepted then. Most likely some congestion at a login-server. This time waiting doesn't solve the problem though so there is a real chance my account has been disabled. It may also be a regular Sunday-morning problem that I never noticed because I almost never go online on Sunday morning.

Regular visit to my uncle in the afternoon. Of course it is full dark when we get back home.

And there is definitely a problem. I still cannot get in at MY ISP.

Dinner is fennel stew with chicken. As usual I rip two fennels out of the garden but they are both huge and with almost noting to clean-away. So I end up with much more fennel than usual in the stew. I actually have a problem stuffing it all in the casserole. That also means it has to cook longer so it gets too late to eat much.
